we see stars
as they burn
incessantly
it was time ago
we orbit the sun we
cannot live
apart from light
even in the darkest
night we seek stars
it’s an impulse that
comes naturally
floating in darkness
we seem to
live from illusion
to illusion light
years away from truth

the stars heaped up
behind the full moon
I could see them
scattered a geography
of the desert sky
some move my eyes
as across a landscape
an imagined horizon

on borrowed dreams
he said we are made
with the same atoms
as the sun and the stars
that a small part of him
could have been a star
long ago now fallen
on this solid planet
yet not having
a light of its own
he was afraid he
may fly apart
anytime once
more into the
finest powder
a tear in my eyes
as I dive into
deep thoughts
he never ceases
to surprise me
